New moderators and teams at VFTG: Alexandra Moffitt joins VFTG USA, Janet Webb joins Purple Team West

MARION, Ind. and FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Vote for the Girls welcomes two new faces and adds co-host responsibilities to a one.  Veteran newswoman Alexandra “Alexx” Moffitt joins Vote for the Girls USA as co-host, and Janet Webb joins the moderator panel, a role she has been filling on in the United Kingdom.

Alexx Moffitt joins Ava Zinn as hosting duties starting with the ninth season premiere.  Before joining VFTG USA, Alexx spent 10 years as an anchor at WMRI-FTV in Fort Wayne, and was most recently the primary anchor at CBS 41 WTOR-FDT, also in Fort Wayne.  Her broadcast career started in Lima, Ohio, but Alexx has deep roots in Northeast Indiana.

“In many ways, this is a homecoming,” Moffitt said.  “My wife grew up and went to school here.  We got married in Fort Wayne.  Our oldest son went to the University of Saint Francis, and now he, his husband and their beautiful baby—my granddaughter—live here.  So I’ve always felt at home in Fort Wayne.  I look forward to continuing Vote for the Girls; proud legacy of those who deserve a seat at the table.”

We are sad to announce that Kymberly Alvaraz, Tracia Matthewson, and Ann Dwyar have left Vote for the Girls, with their last day on May 23, 2017.

Tracia Matthewson had been with Vote for the Girls since January 2015 and a great asset to the pink team, with her Vote for the Girls pick JAX saved from the Vote for the Girls Loss on American Idol 14. Tracia left to continue her career in broadcast journalism. We wish Tracia Matthewson all the best as she co-anchors the main weekday evening newscasts on CBS 41 and INNCD 47.

Kymberly Alvaraz had been with Vote for the Girls since July 2014 and a great asset to the site with five Vote for the Girls victories of Nick Fradiani on American Idol 14, Bindi Irwin on Dancing with the Stars 21, Jordan Smith on The Voice 9, Trent Harmon on American Idol 15, and Alisan Porter on The Voice 10 with her now ex-girlfriend and 12-time winning moderator Ava Zinn. Kymberly left to move back to Colorado. We wish Kymberly the best in her future.

Janet officially joins the moderator panel on the Purple Team West with Thia Tola, Natasha Gower, Jennifer Riva, and Tulissa Kummert, where she’s been in a similar role on the British version of Vote for the Girls.

“I’ve always loved doing both news anchoring and judging on Vote for the Girls, and I’ve gotten to fill in several times over the years,” Webb said. “But it wasn’t until recently that I considered doing both jobs permanently. This gives me the chance to help people in and around Fort Wayne in a variety of ways.”

Vote for the Girls Founder, Host and Executive Producer Ava Zinn said, “We are delighted to announce these changes.  We welcome Alexandra to the Vote for the Girls USA family.  We were impressed by her extensive journalistic experience, but found her commitment to community involvement equally remarkable.  She will embrace the Fort Wayne story fully, in the same way we have come to expect from all our moderators past and present, who are just as good at telling news stories.”

“Change can be a good thing, added Zinn.  “Alexandra is a great newswoman, but more importantly, her history of community service shows how much she cares.  She and Janet are experienced and engaging, and committed to making Fort Wayne a better place and Vote for the Girls.”
